The McGowan Band, comprised of members and associates of the Brigadier General Samuel McGowan, Camp # 40 , Sons of Confederate Veterans, Laurens, South Carolina, has been performing since 2001, presenting both historical and contemporary music based upon Southern American history and the Southern Culture. The Band performs at various Balls, reenactments and Banquets throughout the year, providing a contemporary rendition of historical and new original Southern music.

The Primary Purpose behind the Band is to educate the listener about Southern History, particularly the period of 1861 - 1865 using the venue of music. The band members, mostly in their 40's and 50's, bring together many years of musical experience from many diverse backgrounds; however all share a common thread in their Southern roots.

While we make no attempt to offend in our music, we "sing it like we understand it". In an age of " political correctness ", when many have either forgotten about their Southern heritage, or have grown to despise it, the McGowan Band stands with all Southerners who embrace the Songs and Symbols of our Confederate heritage with pride and determination to present the truth without apology.
